Matter ’09 created a space for meaningful conversation between working artists,
theologians, philosophers, theorists, and anyone else interested in the vital intersection of faith and the arts.
Watch this site and the Shechem Press site for more details about the upcoming Matter ‘09 Anthology due out in Spring 2010 featuring all of the papers, artwork, and presentations from the conference.
The event featured creative liturgies, engaging keynote presentations by Peter Rollins, a concert by Bill Mallonee and Leaving Denton, the premier of SOLOS by Joseph Frost, diverse artist and scholar presentations, and artists’ exhibitions.
The theme for the conference was “Christian Relationships”: our relationship with God (Hebrews 12), our relationship with the church (Hebrews 13), and our relationship with the world (Romans 12). Each of these passages offered artists and scholars a host of issues for debate and interpretation.
